Visual references.

Through this visual references we wants to show that the kind of lifestyle we wants to express is one that is filled with life and fun. These are some of the things that are lacking in the current society. Too much time we are either studying, doing work or doing other commercial activities. The idea of having fun and enjoy life is lost. Most of the time we are just concern about our grades and how much we are going to earn. The interaction between people have lost its original meaning which is to interact through their heart. Now, much of the interaction between people are all about things that only concerning about themselves and seldom about their concern for others.

Through introducing our way of lifestyle to the society, we wants the people that interacts with our lifestyle to relook at their life and to do some reflection about their life. We wants them to find the joy which they once have but had lost. We wants them to give themselves a break in a fast paced world.

Goku Dragonball Z Hybrid Action Figure
Wednesday, February 9, 2011

This Goku Action Figure from Dragonball Z was put out by manufacturer BanDai. They call it a Hybrid Mega Articulated Action Figure. It stands 4 inches tall. After I initially saw this Dragonball Z Action figure, I thought the appearance looked incredible, just like the show. I have much admiration for the manufactorer Bandai. They aren't kidding when the say this Action Figure is "Mega Articulated". The hands & ankles rotate and move, the arms bend in 2 spots, the legs rotate and move plus bend, plus you can swap out the hands for various looks. If there is a pose you can imagine, this Goku Action Figure can proabably do it. I made him pose with the legendary posture against Frieza where he initially ascended. He is so very poseable that I got him close one hand in a fist, while flying through the air prepared to give someone the elbow. Bandai was even nice enough to incorporate a display stand to hold the Goku Action Figure during flying poses. The action figure is tough from what I could tell after he was accidentally dropped a few times.

Interviews

Interview with an otaku:

Jia Wen (J): Hello kraytor, I am currently doing a project to interview anime fans, so I'm interested to know what got you so attracted to manga and anime?

Kraytor (K): Hi, I think mainly it's because I like the way manga is drawn and how they resemble people in real life.

J: Can you elaborate on what do you mean by "the way manga is drawn"?

K: Well, it's quite hard to explain. I guess it's because manga is drawn differently from normal comics, and from the manga, the facial expressions of the character can be seen clearly and their actions also look very realistic.

J: I see. So, what is your favourite manga?

K: Well, I don't really have any favourite manga, because whenever I am free I will try to read every single manga that is currently in the top ranking. However I must say that I spent more time reading Bleach as compared to other manga series.

J: Oh, why is that so?

K: I find Bleach quite interesting, because it talks about the souls of people and the after life. Personally I like supernatural stuff, and furthermore, the characters in Bleach all wield cool-looking swords and daggers.

J: I see. So you prefer fantasy mangas with sword-wielding characters?

K: Well, you can say that. I like characters with swords because I can see and admire the artwork of the artist.

J: That's cool. Do you like to cosplay?

K: Oh absolutely yes! I think it's very cool that we can wear the costumes of our favourite anime characters.

J: So, do you go for cosplay events?

K: If I have the time, usually I'll go with my friends to annual cosplay events held by teenage magazine or other  companies. Sometimes I'll go in my cosplay costume so that I can make more friends at the cosplay event.

J: That's nice. So, besides reading manga and cosplaying, what else do you do during your free time?

K: Well, most of the time I'll be reading manga or watching anime unless I have homework to do. I also play a lot of games, and I think that games with my favourite anime characters in it are the best.

J: I see. Have you heard of Otaku House?

K: Definitely. I love to shop there, because they sell a lot of anime products. I can easily find swords, cosplay costumes, masks, figurines and many other anime-related stuff there. The products are also pretty affordable, and I am currently saving up to buy a cosplay costume.

J: I see. So what do you think of Otaku House?

K: I feel that it is an excellent shop for anime lovers, and you can really find a lot of cosplay stuff there. Although the shop is pretty small, I can still easily find the anime figurines that I want. I hope that there will be more of such shops in Singapore so that we anime lovers have a place to shop and hangout.

J: That's cool. Okay that's about it for the interview. Thanks a lot for your time!

K: No problem. If you want to know more about manga or cosplay, feel free to find me!

Otaku House at Bugis, Iluma
Otaku House products displayed in glass cabinets

Upon entering Otaku House at Bugis, Iluma, I was shocked by the wide array of anime and cosplay products that they offer. Furthermore, I like the way that they display a cosplay figure at the entrance of their shop. Judging from the name "Otaku House", I can infer that this shop caters mainly to Otakus, which is Japanese for people who are obsessed with manga, anime or video games. Hence, it is a brilliant idea to place a female mannequin at the entrance of the shop to attract male Otakus. After browsing through the shop, I discovered that they not only have the usual anime character key chains on sale, they also sell a range of swords from animes such as Bleach and Naruto. Otaku House also sells many anime figurines and accessories that could not be found in other shops. The main attraction of the Otaku House is the cosplay costumes, and cosplay is becoming popular these few days. Furthermore, they have over 500 cosplay costumes, which will definitely attract many Otakus and cosplayers. Hence, the cosplay costumes can be easily identified as an "Otaku House" product, because only Otaku House sells the widest range of cosplay costumes in Singapore. After looking around in the shop, I realised that even the interior decoration of the shop is done beautifully, and there are many glass cabinets around which showcase accessories such as rings and chains, and a complete set of figurines from different animes. However, I must say that I am rather disappointed with the layout of the shelves because it is rather cramped in the shop. Unfortunately, they do not sell the sword that I intended to purchase. Anyway, in conclusion, I feel that although there are only two Otaku House outlets in Singapore, their wide range of anime products and cosplay costumes certainly captures the hearts of anime lovers and cosplayers, and even non-anime fans are tempted to enter the shop to look around because there are also handphone cases, sunglasses, notebooks, and other products on sale that are unique to Otaku House.
